SAVINGS BONDS
EE Bonds Series EE savings bonds are investments that pay interest based on current market rates for up to 30 years for bonds purchased May 1997 through April 30, 2005*. You may purchase EE Bonds via Treasury Direct or at almost any financial institution (bank). The amount printed on an EE bond is its denomination, also known as face amount. The purchase price of an EE bond is one-half of the denomination. For example, a $100 bond costs $50. The following denominations are available: $50; $75; $100; $200; $500; $1,000; $5,000; and $10,000.
*Series EE bonds purchased May 2005 and after will earn a fixed rate of return.
I Bonds I Bonds are liquid savings products. While you own them they earn interest and protect you from inflation. You may purchase I Bonds via Treasury Direct, at most local financial institutions (banks). I Bonds fit all budgets. They are sold at face value in the following denominations: $50, $75, $100, $200, $500, $1,000, $5,000, and $10,000.
HH/H Bonds Notice: As of September 1, 2004, investors are no longer able to reinvest HH/H bonds or exchange EE/E bonds for HH bonds.
Unlike EE bonds, HH bonds are current-income securities. You purchase them at face value, and receive interest payments by direct deposit to your checking or savings account every 6 months until maturity or redemption.
